Soldiers from a parachute regiment have been awarded their Afghanistan medals on top of Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons.

Members of 16 Air Assault Brigade returned from their latest tour just this month.

They were presented with their operational medals after climbing the mountain.

Brigadier James Chiswell said they did a lot of training on the mountain so the site was significant to them.

He said: "Recently back from Afghanistan, it just felt like to be the perfect place to bring the headquarters - somewhere that would be memorable and somewhere that's particularly special to us."

Based in Colchester in Essex, it is the largest brigade in the British Army with 8,000 personnel.

The brigade has recently returned from Lashkar Gah where it was the lead formation in command of Task Force Helmand, part of Operation Herrick 13.

Brig Chiswell was head of UK forces in Helmand.
