The Queen is given a book by an Aberfan disaster survivor after opening Ynysowen Primary School in the village
The Queen also spoke to parents, bereaved in October 1966 when coal waste engulfed the village school
It was the Queen's fourth visit to the village, after first visiting Aberfan following the tragedy in 1966, which killed 144 people
The Queen later said: 'I have shared many of the joys and sadnesses of the Welsh people in that time and have always been struck by your sense of pride and your undimmed optimism'.
The Queen was greeted by hundreds of people for the visit, as part of her Diamond Jubilee tour
The Queen then moved onto Ebbw Vale to the refurbished former steelworks offices, now home to the Gwent Archive and Ebbw Vale Works Archive Trust
The Queen also attended Diamonds in the Park, a festival of rural activities and sports at Glanusk Park, Crickhowell
There was more rain and a little mud found its way onto the royal shoes
But the weather didn't put a dampener on the occasion for the crowds who gathered. After meeting the Wales Grand Slam team on Thursday, it was the turn of rugby legend Neil Jenkins to meet The Queen
