The former leader of Pembrokeshire council is to take over as the new chair of the Royal Welsh Show.

John Davies will replace David Lewis, who has retired as chair but will remain a member of the board.

Mr Davies, 49, stepped down as Pembrokeshire council leader earlier this year.

He runs a 350-acre farm with his wife in north Pembrokeshire and has been a Royal Welsh board member since 2008.

A former student at the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester, Mr Davies has been and a steward at the YFC youth section of the show at Llanelwedd, Powys, for the last 23 years.

He is a Pembrokeshire councillor and also the Dyfed-Powys Police Authority representative on the Police Authority of Wales and a director of the WJEC exam board.
