Norovirus: North Wales hospital situation improving

Three hospitals in north Wales are still affected by the winter vomiting bug norovirus

The norovirus outbreak in north Wales hospitals is improving, health officials say, but people with symptoms are still being advised to stay away.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) is urging visitors with diarrhoea and vomiting not to go to hospital until 48 hours have passed.

On Monday, 35 patients had symptoms at four hospitals - Colwyn Bay, Ysbyty Gwynedd, Dolgellau and Wrexham Maelor.

By Tuesday, the health board said the number with symptoms had fallen to 15.

It said seven patients had symptoms at Ysbyty Gwynedd, where three wards have partial restrictions on admissions.

At Colwyn Bay Hospital, two wards have partial restrictions and five patients have symptoms.

Restrictions have been lifted at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, with three patients with symptoms being cared for in individual rooms, and restrictions have been lifted at Dolgellau Hospital.

The health board has urged people to wash hands with soap and water when entering and leaving hospitals.
