Roads warning as snowfall spreads to Rhondda Cynon Taff

Motorists are being urged to take care on roads as snow spreads and is set to continue overnight.

The heaviest snow has been falling in in mid, north and west Wales for much of the day, forcing a number of schools to close.

Mid and West Wales Fire Service say strong winds have ripped the roofs off several properties in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.

Council gritters are out on the roads as more snow is forecast on Wednesday.

Now the wintry showers have moved further south, with snow falling on higher ground in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

The A477 Cleddau Bridge in Pembrokeshire closed to high sided vehicles and a Met Office yellow "be aware" warning, external of snow, which was issued for most parts of Wales, will continue.

It said showers of hail, sleet and snow on Tuesday evening and overnight were likely to leave a covering of snow of 3cm to 6cm in places, especially on ground over 100m.

Icy patches are also expected on untreated surfaces.

Some 16 schools were closed or partially open in Ceredigion, external and Powys, external.

There has also been disruption on some roads with motorists being warned to take care, particularly on mountain roads.
