Cardiff cystic fibrosis patient frustrated at drug denial
The way decisions are made on prescribing medicines not deemed cost-effective will be simpler in future, according to the health secretary.
Vaughan Gething is backing a review on improving the way patients apply for medicines through the Individual Patient Funding Request route.
Currently, patients have to demonstrate they are "exceptional" cases to have funding approved but from September it will be based on the "likely medical benefits".
Cystic fibrosis patient Mike Boyle, 44, from St Mellons in Cardiff, is waiting for a lung and kidney transplant because his condition has deteriorated in recent years.
He explained to BBC Wales health correspondent Owain Clarke his frustrations with the system.
