Lung transplant woman 'blown away' by donor's 'gift'

A woman with cystic fibrosis who had a life-saving double lung transplant on Christmas Eve has made a tearful thanks to her donor.

Last month, the law changed in Wales to bring in an "opt-out" system which assumes people are happy for their organs to be donated after they die, unless they formally register otherwise.

Kimberly Chard, 32, of Bargoed, Caerphilly county, is now recovering from her long-awaited operation at London's Harefield Hospital.

She said she was still trying to take in the "selfless gift" given by her donor and their family.
