Universal credit: Torfaen council and Job Centre Cwmbran views

It is six months since universal credit was rolled out in Torfaen.

The simplified six-into-one system of benefits and working credits has caused some controversy in how it has been brought in. But what has it been like in this part of south Wales, where around 2,000 claim it?

Richard Davies, who looks after benefits for Torfaen council, said it had brought poverty and destitution and improvements would not be brought in until the new year.

Clare Djordjevitch, team leader at the Job Centre in Cwmbran, which has around 1,000 people receiving universal credit, said it was easier for customers and those awarding benefits to understand.
