WRU Sexism row: MP emotional speaking about scandal

Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi got emotional when describing the Welsh Rugby Union sexism scandal as “distressing”.

On Monday, the Gower MP said sports minister Dawn Bowden should consider resigning over how she handled the situation.

She accused Ms Bowden of a "cynical attempt to rewrite history" in a BBC interview.

In it, the sports minister said she did not have details of complaints by women.

However, Ms Antoniazzi said she had offered to provide her with the information.

“It’s distressing for me to hear that that was being said about me and that I never gave those details," she said.

“I looked for ways to do it without blowing any doors off, without causing too much trouble, but looking for the most effective way to make change happen for the women that I spoke to.”

She added that it was “extremely upsetting” and “offensive” to learn that Ms Bowden had denied she had received the details.

“These women have been let down and are reliving their trauma again,” she said.

The Welsh government has been asked to comment.
