Rare sighting of eagle that was extinct in Wales

A type of eagle extinct in Wales has made an unexpected appearance on a farm in Gwynedd.

Farmer Rhodri Jones captured video of the White-tailed Eagle, external flying in the Penllyn area.

He said he first saw it on his farm in Cwm Penanlliw on Wednesday and then again on the following day.

"It stood on a rock looking down on the house for a good hour I'm sure," he said

The protected birds, also known as sea eagles, went extinct in the UK by 1918 when the last one was shot in Shetland.

The have since been reintroduced in Scotland, Ireland and since 2019 in England where ornithologist and broadcaster, Iolo Williams thinks the eagle in Gwynedd may have come from.
