Carmarthen: Dog put down after four-year-old attacked

A dog which attacked a four-year-old girl has been put down.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the dog was a pocket bully, which are not on the banned breeds list, but was put down with permission of the owner.

Rayven, four, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening or life-changing injuries following the attack at Cae Grug, Carmarthen, at 18:15 GMT on 19 February.

Her mum said she was playing in the street when the dog "pounced" on her.

Charis Sebastian said the dog was about 5 to 6ft (1.5 to 1.8m) away from Rayven when it attacked her, adding the dog knew her daughter "very, very well".

Ms Sebastian said Rayven's injuries were "quite bad" and she required surgery.

Ms Sebastian described the attack as a "freak accident", and said her "heart breaks for the dog's owner".
