Wrexham biker crackdown sees police go off-road

Police are using unmarked off-road bikes in a summer crackdown on the illegal use of motorcycles in Wrexham.

Operation Gaining comes in response to complaints by residents about the nuisance caused by dangerous riding.

North Wales Police said specially trained officers from the neighbouring Cheshire force have been called in to follow illegal bikers off-road.

Sgt Wes Williams said persistent offenders would be prosecuted and see their bikes seized.

"In recent weeks we have seen the increased use of motorbikes and mini motorbikes in the area and particularly off road," said Sgt Williams.

"The behaviour of these motorcyclists is not just anti-social and harmful to the environment but it can also lead to serious injury or worse."
