New Rhyl High School could open in 2016

Works has started on turning the paper vision for a new £25m Rhyl High School into a reality

The new Rhyl High School in Denbighshire could open its gates to over 1,200 pupils as soon as 2016.

The existing buildings will then be demolished and pupils transferred to the new school, which will also be taking students from Ysgol Tir Morfa special school.

About £25 million is being spent on constructions.

"It is really exciting to see this significant project starting," said council cabinet member Eryl Williams.

The proposed building will be three-storeys tall

"It is great news for the school and also the town of Rhyl and its continued regeneration."

Parts of the existing school have been described as dilapidated by the modernising education team in the council.

A sports area will take the place of the current school, when the new buildings are ready for pupils.
