Eight candidates for Cardiff South and Penarth by-election

More than 98,000 people live in Cardiff South and Penarth constituency

Eight candidates will be on the ballot paper for the Cardiff South and Penarth parliamentary by-election.

It follows the resignation of former Labour MP Alun Michael who is standing in the elections to choose South Wales's first police and crime commissioner.

Polling for both elections - and in the parliamentary seats of Corby and Manchester Central - will be held on Thursday 15 November.

Nominations closed on 31 October.

The eight candidates are:

• Stephen Doughty (Labour)

• Robert Griffiths (Communist)

• Andrew Jordan (Socialist Labour)

• Bablin Molik (Liberal Democrat)

• Luke Nicholas (Plaid Cymru)

• Anthony Slaughter (Green)

• Craig Williams (Conservative)

• Simon Zeigler (UKIP)

Mr Michael is contesting the election for police and crime commissioner for the South Wales police area alongside Michael Baker (independent), Caroline Jones (Conservative) and Tony Verderame (independent).
