Gwent Police investigating the suspected murder of a missing man have arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The arrest of the boy from Abercarn is the fourth in the inquiry.

Kyle Vaughan, 24, known as "Jabbers" and from the Newbridge area, was last seen alive on 30 December.

Gwent detectives have also been given extra time to question a 27-year-old man arrested last week on suspicion of murder.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of assisting an offender. Late on Sunday officers were granted a further 24-hour detention to hold another man arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 62-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice has been given bail.

Mr Vaughan, who has diabetes and needs regular insulin injections, was last seen in the late evening of 30 December in the Abercarn and Risca areas.

Later that night his car, a silver Peugeot 306, was found on the A467 between Risca and Crosskeys. Police said it was believed to have been in a collision.

Despite a nationwide appeal, a growing campaign online for information by Mr Vaughan and intense searches by police and family and friends there have been no sightings of the Unilever worker and former Cwmcarn High School pupil.

On Saturday officers visited his family and told them that they now feared that he had died.

Mr Vaughan is 5ft 8in (1.72m), of slim build, and has short dark hair and brown eyes.

He was known to wear a gold neck chain with a cross and has a distinctive tattoo of a pair of flaming dice on his inner left forearm as well as tattoos on his right leg.

Senior investigating officer Det Supt Peter Jones said: "Specialist search officers have been deployed and detailed searches of several areas continue.

"Family liaison officers are providing Kyle's family with support at this very difficult and upsetting time.

"I'm urging anyone who has any information about Kyle's disappearance, no matter how unimportant it may seem, to contact Gwent Police."
