Police pursuit of 10mph 'one of slowest seen'
A prolific shoplifter who led police on a 10mph (16km/h) pursuit in a car with no working tyres has been jailed.
Derbyshire Police said it was looking for a Ford Mondeo on 18 August over suspicions the number plate had been altered.
It spotted the driver, Euton Rook, in Swarkestone, Derbyshire, who tried to evade officers before a police stinger popped all four of the car's tyres.
But Rook continued driving through the village in what police called "one of the slowest pursuits ever seen in Derbyshire", before he was eventually boxed in and arrested.
The force added Rook ended up crashing into a barrier, ramming a police car in the process and injuring the officer who was driving.
Rook was found to have been banned from driving, wanted for recall to prison, as well as thefts from a Greggs branch at the Derbion shopping centre on 8 July, and the Co-op in Chellaston Road, Derby, on 13 August.
Officers also found tape over the number plate to alter the registration, as it had been used in numerous shop thefts.
Rook later admitted two counts of shop theft, failing to stop when required by a police officer, driving while disqualified, using a vehicle without insurance, failing to provide a specimen, criminal damage and assault of an officer.
The 42-year-old, of no fixed address, was jailed on 20 August at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court for a total of 41 weeks.
