DIY SOS host says city's spirit is alive and kicking

TV presenter Nick Knowles has praised a Leicestershire community's spirit during a home renovation project.

BBC programme DIY SOS has been filming a team, which has transformed the home of Isla, who was born with mandibuloacral dysplasia, a rare genetic condition that makes her bones brittle and causes her to age prematurely.

Speaking to the BBC, Knowles said: "This amazing group of people have built an amazing home."

The family required a number of changes to improve their living situation, including a downstairs bathroom, lower light switches and extra handrails up the stairs, to allow Isla to be more independent.

With more than 160 volunteers starting the project in Aylestone on 5 February, DIY SOS will hand the house keys back to Isla's family on Thursday.
