Watch: How Australia is trying to protect beachgoers from shark attacks

In the wake of a recent fatal shark attack at a Sydney beach, the BBC's Australia correspondent Katy Watson went off the coast to learn about what measures authorities are taking to protect beachgoers.

Australia typically records about 20 shark attacks per year, with most in New South Wales and Western Australia.

Historically, dying from a shark bite is uncommon. In over a century of records, Australia's shark attack mortality rate is 0.9 percent - less than one person per year.
