Watch: Driver speeds along pavement to flee police

Police footage has captured the moment a man drove along a pavement near a school in an attempt to get away from officers.

The man had attracted police attention on 10 September last year because the Audi A5 he was driving was suspected to be on false plates in Peterborough.

Officers on patrol approached the vehicle at the Powerleague Complex car park near Stanground Academy, but the driver reversed at speed on to the pavement and drove over a pedestrian crossing before making off.

CCTV later showed him abandoning the vehicle in Cardea and he can then be seen running back past the camera a few seconds later. He was arrested in Stamford, Lincolnshire, a week later.

Cambridgeshire Police said the man was jailed for 30 weeks by magistrates in Peterborough and disqualified from driving for 18 months, after he admitted dangerous driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.
