San Diego debuts first giant pandas from China in decades
Xin Bao and Yun Chuan are the first giant pandas in 21 years to enter the US from China.
To celebrate the public debut of Yum Chuan and Xin Chao, Gov. Gavin Newsom has declared August 8 to be California Panda Day.
"Panda diplomacy" is the movement of the animals from China to other countries, with the goal of fostering understanding and cooperation between nations and strengthening conservation efforts.
