Jade Thirlwall criticises St George's flag on Angel

Former Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall has spoken out against a St George's flag being put on the Angel of the North.

The South Shields artist, who is about to release her debut album, addressed fans at a launch event in Gateshead.

Groups responsible for putting up flags elsewhere have told the BBC they were motivated by pride and patriotism.

But others have said it feels provocative at a time when tensions were running high across England over immigration.

Her comments received a mixed reaction on social media with some agreeing and others not.
