Watch: Drug raid on empty high street building

Empty buildings on the beleaguered high street are being targeted by cannabis growers on an industrial scale, police bosses have said.

Raids have been carried out in dozens of properties, including this one in Abertillery, Blaenau Gwent, by Gwent Police.

The National Police Chiefs' Council said vacant restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, bingo halls and office buildings have all been used to grow the drug.

In Newport criminals used several floors of a former department store on the main shopping street to grow more than 3,000 cannabis plants.
