Ex said he loved me then pointed a gun at my chest

A woman whose violent ex-husband shot her at point-blank range in a hairdressers has called domestic violence a national emergency.

Darren Williams opened fire on Rachel Williams, 52, in a Newport hair salon in 2011 before killing himself shortly afterwards.

She suffered life-changing injuries and, six weeks later, her 16-year-old son Jack also killed himself.

It comes as the State of the Nation report from Women's Equality Network warns violence against women remains "shockingly high" in Wales.
