'Balancing football and school is stressful'
For many teens signing a professional football contract at 16 would be a dream - but for Harry McLean it is a dream come true.
The striker impressed coaches at Motherwell’s youth academy and has now earned himself a two-year contract, all while studying for his National 5 exams.
The 16-year-old sat seven exams this year while juggling his training schedule, but he doesn’t plan to leave school just yet despite signing for the Steelmen.
He said: “I want to be a professional footballer until I’m 40, but if that doesn’t work out, or if I get injured, or I don’t do as well as I’d imagined, I feel like having an education is important."
