Watch: The emotional debate between MPs on assisted dying

After several hours of emotional debate, MPs voted on a bill that would legalise assisted dying in England and Wales.

The bill would allow terminally ill adults with six months or less to live to get medical assistance to end their own lives.

MPs were allowed to vote according to their personal beliefs, rather than following party lines.

Parliament voted to back the bill, which passed by 23 votes.

The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill will now progress to the House of Lords, where it will face further scrutiny.
