Waterfront dragon boat race raises charity cash

A dragon boat race has returned to a town's waters for its sixth year, raising £50,000.

Brave Futures held the event at Ipswich waterfront on Saturday, after it was cancelled in June due to the weather conditions.

The charity, which provides specialist support to children who are victims of sexual abuse, said hundreds of people turned out to the event and 22 teams took part.

Kate Grimwood, its operations manager, said: "There were weather warnings in June so we were not able to proceed with the event, but luckily the time-frame has enabled us to bring on board more teams and raise more funds."
