How residents are expected to use five new bins

A council has introduced a waste collection service that uses five bins as part of a government effort to make recycling easier.

North Hertfordshire District Council has said the new system, which will begin on 4 August, will help reduce the amount of landfill waste and keep recycled paper dry.

Under a policy called Simpler Recycling the government wants all councils in England to offer four containers and an extra for garden waste.

In Hertfordshire this includes a food waste bin, another for cardboard and paper, an additional recycling bin and a non-recyclable waste container.

Reporter Ben Schofield has investigated how each bin works under the new scheme.
