'Sorry, but we won't be treating you'

A woman living with HIV has criticised the healthcare system in Ireland after she was unable to access publicly funded IVF treatment.

Free fertility treatment for eligible patients was introduced in 2023, however, there are no laboratories that can provide services for HIV-positive women who require IVF.

Ainara Pederoso, who lives in Cork with her husband Peter, said the couple is now paying for IVF treatment in Spain.

She said she had received support for her campaign work on the issue from across Ireland.
