Traffic cone removed from Oliver Cromwell's head

A cherry picker has been deployed to remove a traffic cone from a statue of Oliver Cromwell after an MP posted about it on social media.

Ben Obese-Jecty posted on Facebook to express his disappointment to see the cone "still on top of" one of Britain's most famous political figures

The statue is in the town centre of St Ives, Cambridgeshire, which was home to the former Lord Protector of England, Scotland and Ireland in the 1630s.

Mr Obese-Jecty's comments received a mixed response with some people agreeing and others seeing it as a trivial matter, given the regular appearance of cones on the former ruler's likeness.

It is thought the cone was on Cromwell's head for a few days.
