Arson attacks on 5G masts 'affecting businesses and the elderly'
Police are taking part in "proactive patrolling" in areas around 5G masts after a spate of arson attacks, mainly in west Belfast.
Since June 2023, 16 attacks on the towers have been reported in the area, costing "millions of pounds" in damage to digital infrastructure, Belfast's Deputy Lord Mayor Paul Doherty claimed.
Councillor Ronan McLaughlin, who is a lifelong west Belfast resident, said some of the attacks are being driven by online conspiracy theories.
"You can see the majority of the masts that have been burned have been in the Colin area, I would hope that this is a small minority of individuals," he told BBC News NI.
