First minister leads tributes to Alex Salmond
First Minister John Swinney has paid tribute to Alex Salmond during a motion of condolence at the Scottish Parliament.
He said Salmond had left an indellible mark on public life, during a political career spanning three decades and two parliaments.
Swinney acknowledged that while their relationship had changed over the last few years, there was no doubt he had led a government that was wholly devoted to Scotland.
Other politicians paid tribute to the former first minister. Alba MSP Ash Regan said Salmond could "dismantle an argument with a single quip or rally a movement with a stirring call to arms."
While Scottish Conservative leader Russell Findlay said that his "influence shaped our society."
