BBC Rewind: George Best joins lowly Dunstable Town
Archive footage shows George Best preparing to play for Dunstable Town Football Club 50 years ago.
The former Manchester United star agreed to appear in two friendlies for the side, which was bottom of the First Division South of the Southern League.
A BBC report ahead of his first game on 5 August 1974 explained how the club had to expand its capacity to host 8,000 fans, compared with a top attendance the previous season of just 349.
Best said: "Barry Fry, the manager, is a friend of mine and he just asked if I fancied a couple of games. I didn't see any reason why not."
