Coach who taught Ralph Fiennes for The Dig retires

The voice coach who taught actor Ralph Fiennes how to speak with a Suffolk accent for the film The Dig is retiring.

Charlie Haylock spent months with Fiennes, helping him to perfect the distinctive accent of self-taught archaeologist Basil Brown for the 2021 Netflix drama.

The Dig captures the incredible moment at Sutton Hoo in Suffolk on the eve of World War Two, when Brown found iron rivets from the hull of a ship.

The discovery was one of only three Anglo-Saxon ship burials discovered in England.

Haylock spoke with BBC Look East's Debbie Tubby about accents and how he helped Fiennes perfect the Suffolk twang.
