'Anger and grief' as Athens wildfires continue overnight

Thousands of residents have been evacuated as large wildfires reached the suburbs of Athens, with flames as high as 25m (80ft).

The BBC's Jessica Parker is at the scene, where a huge plume of smoke can be seen coming from a timber yard.

Homes and properties - including a school - in nearby towns are on fire as the wildfires continued overnight.

Aircraft working to extinguish the flames were forced to land when the sun set, making it a ground operation overnight. Residents have complained of a lack of fire trucks and firefighters, and the Greek authorities have accepted offers of international assistance.
