Plane paints seafront sky with technicolour light
The sky above a seaside town has been painted in technicolour light with thousands of LEDs and fireworks attached to aeroplanes.
The first in a series of flights above Great Yarmouth seafront in Norfolk has begun and will continue every Wednesday evening for the next six weeks, from 23 July to 27 August.
The events will be run from three locations across the summer, including Anchor Gardens, Pleasure Beach Gardens and at the Jetty Car Park.
Rob Barsby, a pilot at Aerosparx, said: "A normal display with smoke is quite standard and that's a normal show but we are going to bring you painting the sky with light."
Asa Morrison, chief executive of Visit Great Yarmouth, said the events helped to bring about £3.5m to the town's economy.
"This new dimension of fireworks takes the displays to a whole new level of spectacle and novelty," he said.
He said he hoped the 22:00 BST displays would "give people the chance to experience as much of the seafront as possible and visit perhaps new businesses and attractions".
Fireworks are fitted to the plane's wingtips, wheel spats and trailing edges and are set off by a computer according to the choreography.
After travelling across the world for events including going to Dubai and also working at events like Formula 1, Mr Barsby said he was "very pleased" to be able to bring it to Great Yarmouth.
Mr Barsby said: "We've got thousands of LEDs on the aeroplanes and get accused of being UFOs quite often."
