Watch: Taiwan unveils first domestically-built submarine
President Tsai Ing-wen presided over the launch in the port city of Kaohsiung on Thursday.
The vessel, which cost $1.54 bn (£1.27bn) to build, has combat systems and torpedoes sourced from US company Lockheed Martin.
Military officials say it will undergo several tests before being delivered to the navy by the end of 2024.
