The man's body was found in a burning car in Lucan

A man whose body was found in a burning car in the Republic of Ireland has been named.

A murder inquiry was launched after Gardaí (Irish police) said he was shot dead.

Irish broadcaster RTÉ have reported the identity of the victim as 42-year-old Wayne Whelan.

The remains were found at Mount Andrew Court, Lucan, at 19:50 local time on Monday 18 November.

The man was found in the passenger seat of the vehicle which had been set on fire.

Gardaí said a post-mortem examination confirmed that the man had been shot a number of times and have appealed for information.
