Guernsey freight charge may bring newspaper price hike

  • Published

Introducing air freight charges could increase newspaper prices, the Guernsey branch of the National Federation of Retail Newsagents has said.

Details of a proposed charge, due out next week, are expected to amount to 4.5p per kilo or £45 per tonne.

Dave Shepperd said retailers feared others would follow the Financial Times in putting up their prices.

He said if it became too costly the newspapers may stop delivering and jobs would go.
