Guernsey Police Chief defends cost of armoured vehicles

The purchase of three armed response vehicles at a cost of £375,000 has been defended by Guernsey's Police Chief.

Patrick Rice said events in the UK, like the shootings in Cumbria, had shown the force had to be prepared.

He said: "Something like that could happen anywhere in the British Isles and we can't be complacent.

"There were issues there we needed to address just like any other police force in the British Isles and that's just what we've done."

The money was agreed by the Home Department for the force's tactical firearms unit.

It includes two armed response vehicles, which have recently been delivered, at a cost £85,000 with an armoured Land Rover costing £185,000 due to be delivered later this year.
