Guernsey taxi marshals 'not needed', says crime panel

Guernsey's revellers are too well behaved to warrant the introduction of a taxi marshal scheme, according to the island's Crime Reduction Panel.

The panel researched the idea but found there were too few incidents of assault or abuse to justify it.

It said a survey found pub and club landlords also did not feel taxi marshals were necessary in the island.

A similar scheme in Jersey was said to have cut anti-social behaviour in late night taxi queues in St Helier.

The scheme in Jersey involves volunteer bouncers looking out for verbal and physical friction in taxi queues.

In Guernsey, money was invested in lighting and CCTV at St Peter Port's Weighbridge taxi rank.
