Steve Morris, a former Guernsey Electricity engineering director, has been appointed as energy policy advisor for the States of Guernsey.

It follows the States approval of the Energy Resource Plan, which outlines the future of energy in the island.

Mr Morris, who has more than 30 years' experience in the energy industry, will be tasked with developing the plan into a reality.

He is due to take up his new position at the end of March.

Deputy Carla McNulty Bauer, chairwoman of the Energy Policy Group, said: "Steve's professional engineering background together with his working knowledge of a considerable range of renewable energy technologies will provide professional and robust advice on a range of energy issues.

"He will also be advising the renewable energy team, which will be putting in place the framework required to enable real progress to be made on harnessing marine renewable energy."
