Guernsey unemployment rate higher than figures showed

  • Published

There were more Guernsey residents without work in February than the Social Security Department reported.

A mistake by the department meant 22 Guernsey people were wrongly identified as Alderney residents instead.

The actual Guernsey figure was 454, with 151 working part time and 36 on a training scheme - a total of 641, or 1.4% of the working population.

The revised figure for Alderney was 21, not 43. This equated to 2.3% rather than 4.7%, as previously reported.

The department has apologised for the error.
