Guernsey States helps 76 overseas projects

The States of Guernsey helped 76 projects in 31 countries in 2011, the Overseas Aid Commission has revealed in its annual report.

It gave more than £2.5m in grants to the schemes in Africa, Asia and South America, the report shows.

The figures also show it contributed £50,000 in donations to the East Africa Drought Appeal.

The amount of funding was similar to that in 2010 after the States froze aid at the same level during 2011.

As the commission spent just half of its emergency and disaster relief funding the remaining £100,000 will be used for grant aid in 2012.
