Guernsey fire service in warning over Diamond Jubilee bonfires

Guernsey residents planning a bonfire to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee have been urged to contact fire officers beforehand.

A number of fires and beacons are planned in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee on 4 June.

Andy Mauger, Community Fire Safety Manager, says he wants reassurance that such events will be properly managed.

Mr Mauger said the good weather forecast for the jubilee weekend was of particular concern.

"We just want to know that the fire is going to be properly looked after, properly extinguished," he said.

Eight beacons will be lit in the Bailiwick of Guernsey for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, with three of those situated in Guernsey.

The States Commerce and Employment Department agreed to a limited sale of fireworks for the event, between 31 May and 5 June.
