Guernsey States review candidates proposed
- Published
An experienced Jersey politician and a UK solicitor have been suggested as the public members of a committee reviewing Guernsey's government.
Terry Le Sueur, former chief minister of Jersey, retired in November after 24 years in politics.
Claire Smith has worked with UK local government, including advising on bringing in the Local Government Act.
The pair have been selected by the review committee, but the States need to agree to their appointment.
They were chosen from a total of 12 applications.
The political members are Chief Minister Peter Harwood, the chairman of the States Assembly and Constitution Committee Matt Fallaize, Treasury Minister Gavin St Pier and Deputies Richard Conder and Mark Dorey.
In June the States delayed appointing non-States members to the committee to allow a budget to be prepared to provide travel expenses in case anyone from off island was appointed.
Deputies will have to agree to this budget to pay for the travel expenses of Mr Le Sueur.
The election is due to be discussed in next week's States meeting.
