Guernsey taxi fares to rise by 3%

Taxi fares in Guernsey are to rise by an average of just under 3% from Monday.

Rises will apply to the two tariffs, the more expensive of which is used on public holidays and overnight.

The change in fares was agreed by the Environment Department after receiving just one response to a consultation.

Geoff Savident, the president of the Guernsey Taxi Owners Federation, said he believed passengers and drivers would not notice much of a difference.

He said the extra costing on the average journey would be minimal.

The department issued examples of how the increase would affect fares:

  • A three mile journey on tariff one (Mon-Fri 07:00-22:00 and Sat-Sun 07:00-19:00) will increase from £8.00 to £8.20.

  • A three-and-a-half mile journey on tariff two (public holidays, Mon-Fri 22:00-07:00 and Sat-Sun 19:00-07:00) will increase from £12.20 to £12.60.
