Guernsey recycling bring banks 'reviewed'

Guernsey's recycling bring banks could be replaced or upgraded after the start of kerbside collections next month.

The recycling site at Cobo, one of the island's eight "super sites", has closed.

A Public Services Department spokesman said the "small and cramped" bring bank was closed due to a development being built in the area.

The island's remaining bring bank sites will be reviewed after kerbside collections have started on 10 March.

Recycling officer Tina Norman-Ross said demand for the bring banks was expected to fall with the roll out of kerbside collections.

She said there were currently no plans to remove the remaining seven bring bank "super sites", but once the scheme was in place they may be replaced with more purpose-built facilities.

There are also 29 smaller bring banks sites around the island.

Mrs Norman-Ross said: "In the longer term, we do not think the introduction of kerbside will completely remove the requirement for some bring banks."

Details of the two-year kerbside recycling scheme, being held in an attempt to improve the island's recycling rate, are due to be sent to households before it begins.
