Guernsey has had its wettest winter for 101 years, the island's met office has said.

The rainfall total for December last year to February was 19in (483mm). The previous record was 18.7in (475mm) recorded in 1915.

However, the wettest winter since records began in 1843 was in 1875/1877 when 20in (510mm) of rain was recorded.

A met office spokesman said it was "highly likely" this winter would be the second wettest in its history.

Drivers warned

Guernsey has been battered by strong winds and high tides this winter.

A flood warning has been issued for Guernsey's East Coast for Sunday morning.

A 33ft (10m) high tide along with a southerly force four to six wind is expected to cause flooding in exposed low lying coastal areas.

Pedestrians and drivers have been warned to take extreme care when using coastal roads and walkways.
