The number of deputies elected in the district of St Sampson will not fall as part of the reduction in the size of Guernsey's government.

Meanwhile, the district of the Castel will lose two seats in the States, while the other five electoral districts will lose one each.

The States agreed the changes after agreeing the number of deputies should fall from 45 to 38.

The boundaries of the seven districts will remain unchanged.

The districts are based on the parish boundaries with the South East including St Martin and St Andrew and the West including the Forest, St Pierre du Bois, St Saviour and Torteval, while St Peter Port South includes the islands of Herm and Jethou.

Deputies also agreed the States Assembly and Constitution Committee would investigate ways of increasing inclusivity and diversity amongst candidates standing for election.

This will include looking at the obstacles for candidates and possible means of overcoming them including funding.

At the last election in 2012 just five of the 45 deputies elected were women.
