Guernsey's Leale's Yard to include 400 homes in Co-op plans

More than 400 homes could be built at Leale's Yard under plans for its "long-awaited regeneration".
The latest discussions about developing the area, which covers about 7.5 acres (three hectares), began in 2004.
The landowner, the Channel Islands Co-operative Society, previously admitted a lack of progress, and said evicting its tenants in 2008 was a mistake.
The plans include 476 parking spaces, 410 homes and more than two acres of public space and private gardens.
They also set out spaces for community and for leisure and commercial use.
Colin Macleod, chief executive officer, said: "The vision is for the Bridge to become a vibrant and viable place and to allow it to truly fulfil its role as Guernsey's second main centre.
"The Bridge frontage will remain very much at the heart with residential units to the west and a plaza, which gives priority to pedestrians, linking the commercial units with the marina."
As part of the plans, the society intends to close its current Homemaker store in Lowlands Industrial Estate and relocate it to the Bridge.
The plans will on display before being submitted to planners on Monday.
